What printer??
I accept I am quite ignorant about PC's and how they work, but I always assumed that having bought a lap-top, it should be able to print - not so the Acer Aspire One as far as can see. PC World, who sold it to me do not want to know, Epson do not make printers that work with Linux - any ideas??

Mmm, sure. "Most" printers work with Linux, this includes parallel, serial, USB and network printers .. however there are some notable exceptions. There is actually a database of printers / drivers which will tell you exactly what will work and how well, you can find it here. Personally I only ever buy HP printers (for a number of reasons) and you'll find that generally these will be a good choice.
The "best" printer I've found in terms of value for money / working well on Linux etc is the HP1320 (or the 1320N for the network edition). I have installed many of these and indeed have one sat in the office. Beware the HP 1100's and 1200's, these are much cheaper, and for a reason (!)
