3 mobile dongle for my Acer Aspire One A150L / Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 512MB / 120GB / 8.9" / Linux / NetBook
3 mobile dongle for my Acer Aspire One A150L / Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 512MB / 120GB / 8.9" / Linux / NetBook
I have purchased Acer Aspire One A150L / Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz / 512MB / 120GB / 8.9" / Linux / NetBook i would like to maybe go for the 3 mobile broadband payg,as they have a few modems on offer whats the best one to get for the above notebook,as i here there is one better to use than the others would this be right?
Also does anyone have instructions once i get one of these how i set it up on my notebook as i think i read you need to make some tweaks to make it work.
Also anyother software i can add to this notebook that would make it even better to use or usefull as i think most windows software does not work on this notebook, but can with certain software, but i need to know about the 3 mobile broadband dongle is best.

Hi, if you take a look at this it should [specifically] answer all your questions.

So you saying the HUAWEI E220 HSDAP USB is the best model from 3 to buy and work with the above,if so why,are the others not as good with the notebook using linux

Is this the one?

or is the one you mention different,is the others 3 offer not better as they seem to be more expensive, also wondered who had best deal on this payg dongle, through 3 or others?

I don't think there's any implication that the others are not as good, just that the one listed has been tested and is known to work with Linux. (and at least one of the others is known not to work properly with Linux)

This is the one, although I'd be looking at the £10 a month rather than PAYG.
(if you're actually going to use it, PAYG is usually horribly expensive for broadband)

Does anyone know of any way to get a three dongle (the 169G model) working with the Aspire One - I really want to get to know linux, but not having net access makes the aspire an expensive paperweight...
Thx

Josua Dietze has written a Linux utility to switch this device into the correct mode , you can find it here; USB_ModeSwitch.
./usb_modeswitch -v 0×12d1 -p 0×1001 -d 1
./usb_modeswitch -v 0×12d1 -p 0×1001 -H 1
Then you should be able to use the create a connection Wizard (although this is eeePC terminology) to add a new modem connection on /dev/ttyUSB0.
