Linux Live CD
I have a PCLinuxOS Live CD but it will not boot to my new computer
which is HP Pavilion a1429uk with an AMD Athlon 64 bit processor.I also
have Knoppix 3.9 live CD which also will not boot up.The graphics are
ATI Technologies
I have connected my old laptop a DEll Inspiron 3000 series 1999
and that accepts both Live CDs but I cannot find out how to mount the
Windows partition to view my Windows XP Home SP2 files and folders.
Is my new computer incompatible with Linux?
On the old laptop how do I mount the Windows partition?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Bonzo
Hokay.. the first one, I would be surprised if it is not
compatible.. Have you checked your BIOS for your boot order? Check that
your CDROM is a higher boot order than your Harddrive (so boot 1st).
Your laptop, what type is the windows partition, FAT32, or NTFS? If
it's FAT32, its easy, if its NTFS, its harder, but still possible
(though its a lot harder to write to NTFS from Linux than it is from
Windows.. Microsoft deliberatly made it so!)
Bonzo sent me this in an email...
I am now able to boot up my new computer with Linux Live CD's DSL
Ubuntu PCLinuxOS and Knoppix5 but not Gnome which freezes. On none of
these can I configure my sound card which is RealtekAC'97Audio whether
I use ALSA or OSS and Knoppix says something about sound modules needed
as the kernel does not have one.
