Gnome Desktop

I can bootup OK with Gnome Live CD until it gets to the Gnome Desktop Picture then it just freezes and will not load the desktop.Please help.

What hardware are you using? Do you have the model of your computer? And Its specs?

EDIT: Is this the same computer as your last thread Bonzo?

Thank you for your help. My computer is HP Pavilion a1429.uk with AMD 64 bit Athlon processor and ATI Radeon Express 200 series. It is the same computer as my last thread. I am sure the problem is with my video resolution but just cannot fix it.
Further advice greatly appreciated.

I know that there are serious problems with the ATI Radeon Express drivers, especially with the 200 series... so that could well be your problem, athough I'm not sure. It sounds like its freezing whilst trying to load the window manager, its loaded the base ok.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Bonzo, if you could try getting hold of another graphics card, that might solve your problem, even a really cheap one *might*. Its probably best to look up linux compatibility before you buy one. If you post here with the model name/number you're looking at, I or I'm sure someone else, will check for you.

Urm, this sounds like a networking problem (?!) or a hardware problem ..

Can you do a CTRL-Alt-F1 ..

Then "dmesg" ..

Then see if any of the messages shown give any insight ...
