Gentoo Problem
OK, so I want to install Gentoo 2007. I need to use the Installer
LiveCD Disk, since I have no Internet Connection on it. Now, when
boots:
MP-BIOS bug 8254: timer not connected to IO-APIC
So I reboot and use "noapic". The bug disappears, but during the
splashscreen it freezes at 52%. The system has not frozen, because I
can still press F2 to get to Verborse (text) mode. Last thing detected:
1 AMD Mobile Sempron 3000+ Processor
You will find that some machines are not linux friendly, and some distributions are not friendly towards your hardware.
If you "really" want to use Gentoo [I'm guessing you have a reason]
grab the minimal installer and follow the self-bootstrap instructions
on the web page .. (which "used" to be the only way of doing it!)
The Live CD has historically been "interesting" on some platforms, but the minimal installer should boot on just about anything.
Gareth...
1. The server has no internet access.
2. This happens with the latest kernel.
3. I've tried the above method anyway...
