Memory stick

Posted by Christine Rutherford at June 29. 2008

Hi,

I have just loaded Linux Ubuntu 7.04 and am trying to find my way around. I have a memory stick with some files I wish to open in office, but it won't "mount the volume", says there is probably nothing in the drive? Hope someone can help. Tried making a link, but it won't do that either.

Chris

One way is to open the Terminal Program and to attempt to mount all devices. This can be done by typing:

sudo mount -a

It may be that the format of the USB key is not one that Ubuntu can handle.
Do you know what filesystem your USB key is formatted in?

Ubuntu should automatically detect & attempt to mount all usb devices.

p.s. welcome to linux.co.uk!
